Kangaroo Island is Australia's third-largest island after Tasmania and Melville Island.

It is 112 kilometres south-west of Adelaide and at its closest point to the mainland, it is 13 kilometres offshore from Cape Jervis, South Australia.

Kangaroo Island was separated from mainland Australia by a rise in sea level more than 9,000 years ago. Stone tools found on the island suggest that Aboriginal people lived there about 11,000 years ago.

It is supposed that they disappeared in 200 BC. Theories about the cause include disease and in-breeding, warfare, climatic change or exodus.

22nd January 2024 - 2 Day Kangaroo Island Camping Adventure

Spent a lot of time on transit on the 2-day kangaroo island tour. It is a big island and by the time you add travel from Adelaide to ferry, then the ferry ride, its becomes a lot of time in a confined space. It's a very rugged place, quite desolate so not quite as visually stunning as I expected. Our host probably could have put a bit more effort into hosting us; he seemed a bit knackered, weary or perhaps had been hosting this trip for too long and was a bit bored of it. Either way, he didn't really add anything to the trip other than driving services. Overall, still interesting and great wildlife spotting, but would probably have preferred to spend the time touring wineries.
