Itinerary
DAY 1 FOGG DAM / KAKADU NATIONAL PARK TOUR
An early morning start gets us out to greet the sunrise on the dynamic Adelaide River floodplains. On display here is a massive variety of birdlife, reptiles, mammals and more across wetlands, floodplains, woodlands and monsoonal forest. Enjoy breakfast with the birds and coffee with the critters! Moving on, our destiny takes us to Jabiru in the heart of World Heritage Kakadu National Park. Our first stop will be the Bowali centre for an introduction to the Kakadu environmental and indigenous landscape as well as a fresh picnic lunch.
After lunch it is time for a birds eye view of Kakadu from a light aircraft. This is all about perspective. From there we venture to the iconic East Alligator River and join the award winning Guluyambi Culture Cruise for 90 minutes of wildlife spotting, indigenous culture instructions and anecdotes from a local aboriginal guide. Bare in mind to keep your hands in the boat as this river has one of the highest populations of estuarine crocodiles in the world. For those that survive the cruise it is time for a stroll amongst the ancient rock art of Ubirr culminating with sunset nibbles and refreshments at Nadab lookout overlooking the eternal Kakadu floodplains.
Accommodation tonight is a Suite room at Anbinik Resort.

DAY 2 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK TOUR
Up before the birds, a quick cuppa and we are off to Cooinda where we join the world-renowned sunrise Yellow Waters cruise. This is the perfect cruise to witness the wakening of wildlife on the wetlands backed up by expert local commentary. Enjoy the full buffet breakfast at Cooinda resort after the cruise before spending some quality time in the comprehensive aboriginal culture centre, Warradjan. Featuring stories, images, crafts, art and much more Warradjan is a place to go quietly and slowly. Absorb the knowledge and then sit down with female elders and learn the craft of string making and weaving afterwards.

Following this we journey towards Anbangbang Billabong and Nourlangie. Both Anbangbang and Nourlangie are rich in natural values and are significant spiritual places for the local indigenous peoples. For such an occasion and location, you will be privately guided through the halls of time by a local indigenous guide. Ask those questions and ponder the answers.
With a late lunch following the walk by Nourlangie we are set for arrival back in Darwin around 7:30pm.
Please note that the itinerary is subject to environmental and cultural considerations which may affect it on the day. We reserve the right to make changes and omisisons without notice.

What should I pack?
Depending on where in Australia or New Zealand you decide to visit, your luggage will vary. For exact information please visit the "What to bring" section of each tour page.
What immunisations do I need?
For the latest information on immunisations, we strongly recommend you or contact the Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre (www.traveldoctor.com.au) to discuss health requirements for your trip. They will advise you about appropriate inoculations.
Do I need to take any medical supplies?
It is not necessary to bring any medical supplies other than any personal items you may require. Each tour will carry an first aid box and our guides are all certified in First Aid.
How much luggage can I take?
We don't have an exact policy when it comes to luggage though we just ask our customers to be mindful that we have limited space. Generally we recommend people to bring a large backpack/suitcase with all their gear and another smaller backpack to keep on the bus and hold their daily items ( phone, water bottle, towel, sunscreen etc ) and which they used to take on walks etc. If you have a lot of luggage is best to leave the things you don't need at your hotel/hostel where they will store it for free.
Where can I store my luggage whilst on tour?
During the tour your main luggage will be stored in our trailer. This trailer is always locked however we cannot guarantee the complete safety of your gear from theft or damage. This is why it is so important to purchase a good travel insurance. If you need to store your luggage whilst away on tour, this can be done through your accommodation. Most hostel and hotels will store your luggage safely free of charge.
Will I be able to do any laundry whilst on tour?
For camping tours there will be no time to do laundry. However, for longer cross country tours involving hostel or hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to wash your clothes.
Do I need a sleeping bag?
For all camping tours require you to have a sleeping bag. If you don't have one they may be available for hire via the "join tour" button.
How fit do I need to be?
Our tours are made to be fun, informative and active and can be enjoyed by anyone with a moderate degree of fitness and agility. Travellers should be comfortable with hiking/walking up to 5km each day.
Do I need travel insurance?
Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.
Can I get online whilst travelling?
For tours incorporating hostel/hotel style accommodation you may have the opportunity to use wireless internet or use of nearby internet cafe. If you have a mobile plan with internet then that should be ok except for more remote regions. This will vary from tour to tour so please contact us directly for more accurate information.
Will I be able to use my mobile whilst on tour?
You can use your mobile while touring in Australia or New Zealand, but coverage may be limited in remote areas. For best connectivity, consider purchasing a local SIM card or an international roaming plan.

Can I just do a section of this tour and not the whole trip?
Unfortunately it is not possible to only do a part of the tour. Passengers generally need to stay with the tour from start to finish. However, drop off locations at the end of the tour made me negotiated.
Does the tour price include flights?
No. Tour prices do not include any travel arrangements other than for the duration of the tour itself. If you need assistance with booking flights or buses our travel team and certainly help - Just ask!
How far in advance do I need to book my tour?
As a rule of thumb we generally say AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to departure, this will usually get you a seat on the date you want. That being said, we cannot guarantee that spaces will be available at the time of your booking so, if you can, book as soon as possible. Bookings can still be made right up until the departure date of the tour if seats are available. If you know when you'd like to travel, please contact us and we will let you know if you need to book soon or if you have time.
If I make a deposit only, when will I need to pay the balance?

Who travels with us
Is this tour for me?
Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.
Cost and Fees
What does "Paid Locally" mean?
Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.
Will I need additional money?
Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.
Do I need to tip our guide?
If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.
Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?
Our tour prices are completely transparent. There are no additional fees involved that are not included in the overall tour price shown. If you wish to do optional activities such as helicopter rides or wildlife safaris, then an extra cost may be needed. However, this will always be made clear at the time of your booking.
Whilst on tour
What type of tent will I get?
Tents are generally designed to accommodate a minimum of 2 people. This means there is plenty of room to move about and store your luggage. However, most Uluru tours we try and encourage the use of swags and mattress rather than tents. This is the ideal way to camp in the centre of Australia; Around a campfire, under the stars!
What are the sleeping arrangements in Kakadu?
Most of our tours to Kakadu National park involve a camping. However, for those tours heading towards Alice Springs and beyond, there will also be hostel style accommodation.Tents are generally designed to accommodate a minimum of 2 people. For breakfast we supply cereals, fruits, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve picnic sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner - This can vary between pastas, bbqs, rices and other hearty food to keep you energized! We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops. Please refer to each individual tour/package to establish which meals are included.
Can you cater of special diets?
We can certain cater for most dietary needs. Please advise us at the time of your booking so arrangements can be made. For travellers with more extreme diets we may ask that you bring along additional snacks.
Can I book extra accommodation for the start and end of the tour?
We know our country inside and out and would be happy to give you good recommodations. Please contact us for recommendations.

“Best tour to Litchfield”
What pleasure to spend a day with Rob and Adam, do some really cool things, but also learn about the country, the plants and animals and the ecosystems.
Swimming in the pools and the seeing the waterfalls a highlight.
Really delicious homemade eats throughout the day. Very highly recommended tour.
“Fantastic day tour at Litchfield”
Absolutely amazing, fantastic guide Carl who is very knowledgeable, great yarns and very nice guy. Fantastic food and locations visited at a relaxing pace. Highly recommend.
“A great company to tour with”
Adam was our guide and is a true asset to Ethical Adventures. Knowledgeable, friendly, accomodating, a true professional. If my mum had made a salad lunch like the one provided I may have eaten it. All up a great experience - highly recommend.
“Finniss River Lodge buggy and airboat tour.”
Extremely well organised tour to Finniss River Lodge/Station. Adam was bang on time with the pick up and he proved to be very knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour. When he handed us over to the Finniss River Crew we were again treated like royalty and given an experience that was second to none. At the end of the day Adam again delivered us back to our lodgings. Thoroughly recommended tour company!
“Excellent day in Litchfield NP with enthusiastic Ethical Adventu”
Fantastic day with Rob of Ethical Adventures. I was after a day trip to experience the beauty of Litchfield NP and was offered two choices - I chose Ethical Adventures as it was small group (max. 10) . The day exceeded my expectations. Rob (owner and our guide ) kept the group entertained with his information and his stories. His passion for people enjoying and connecting with the beauty of nature is evident, and his local knowledge and insight into Litchfield NP, Darwin and the region is a bonus. Rob and his partner create a bespoke experience that I recommend to anyone who wants to experience this beautiful part of the world. Catering for the day was also excellent with a delicious lunch and home baked goodies offered throughout the day. Highly recommended.
“Fantastic experience”
The Litchfield park day trip was amazing. Carl has excellent knowledge of the area and history. We never felt rushed and were given space to explore. The scenery is spectacular with swimming to the waterfalls a highlight. The tour included all food which was homemade and absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a small tour group that really takes care of you this is rhetorical trip to book.
“Great day out with Ethical Adventures..”
I was nervous about the full day trip to Litchfield NP as my wife is using a walking stick and my father in law is elderly. However my fears were soon put to rest, as Carl made us feel at home on this Australian adventure. He provided a wealth of knowledge about the history, fauna and habitats that make up the Park. Carl was very attentive to our drink and food needs with a nice lunch spread and in between meal breaks that included a very welcome cup of tea and ice towels to cool us down on a particularly hot day. A fantastic day out with some very good memories. Thank you Ethical Adventures for looking after us.
“Darwin and Mindil Markets Experience”
This Darwin and Mindil markets trip was cancelled as they did not have enough starters. I am awaiting $135 refund and any assistance you can provide in following this up would be appreciated.
“Day to remember at Lichfield NP and Berry Springs”
Adam our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and lead our tour at a very relaxed pace which still included all the sightseeing places . Nice small group and a delicious lunch with snacks and morning and afternoon tea. Plenty of time to swim and look around at each stop.
“a perfect day”
This was the most beautiful tour we have ever booked! Our driver Carl explained so much and brought us the most beautiful places in the Litchfield NP. We had enough time to bathe, the food and snacks throughout the day were super good and rich - thank you for that!
A very clear recommendation for this provider:)
“Fun, active and informative.”
Rob provided one of the most informative commentaries of any tour I have taken globally. The detail was useful, serious when necessary, and humorous at other times. The small bus was clean, safe and comfortable. The sites to which we were taken in Litchfield were beautiful, allowing swimming, short walks, and learning about the history and environmental conditions of the area. A simply fabulous trip!

“Would do again”
Rob was a great guide with a wealth of knowledge. His insights on impacts to the park were thought provking & refreshing from a guide.
The food was excellent.
We would have liked a little more hiking, however as we were the youngest on the tour, it was understandable.
Definitely no duck farts on the bus! Lol (if you know you know)
“Fantastic.”
Fantastic day trip to Litchfield Park. Very well organised by the owners, Rob and Tracey, and a delightful host/driver named Carl.
“Best tour operator in Darwin”
Best excursion we took in Darwin as Ethical Adventures go beyond expectations with so many added extras and thoughtful touches.
Karl, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and we felt very safe in his hands.
Would 100 percent recommend.
“Beautiful afternoon in Darwin”
We had a lovely man Rob for the afternoon driving the two of us
around Darwin then at Mindil Market. we had reserved seating to eat and seats on the beach for the sunset
“Not to miss !”
We highly recommend the memorable Kakadu day trip out of Darwin we did with very knowledgeable, energetic and friendly Rob Woods. Well planned out with frequent stops, thorough explanations and lovely meals.
“A tour with character”
Excellent trip to Litchfield National Park that took in many sites and waterfalls. Small tour group with really informative guide who knew how to avoid the biggest crowds and who kept us going with great food and snacks along the way. Would highly recommend taking this trip with Ethical Adventures!
“Wonderful national park small group tour”
I enjoyed a wonderful day with Ethical Tours. A very well organised, and highly informative beautiful tour. Rob went "the extra mile" to assist me.
“An absolute MUST DO”
We had a great day out with Carl in Litchfield. 10 on tour. Excellent commentary - how does he do it? Great sights, lovely afternoon swim at Wangi Falls.
“Above and beyond my wildest dreams.”
You may have tried the rest, now try the best. Above and beyond my wildest dreams. Two thrilling, action-packed days! that came together like clockwork. Rob, the guide is so friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the people, the culture, the history and the nature. A walking encyclopaedia. It may be a little more expensive than some of the tours, but what this trip has to offer is true value for money and worth every last dollar. Small numbers on the trip make for a very informative, proactive and easy to understand adventure. If you want to see the beauty of Kakadu and learn about the history and the culture, this is the trip for you. The highlight was the Yellow Water cruise and culminating in a flight over the whole area. SIMPLY OUTSTANDING. Thankyou ETHICAL ADVENTURES. 5 Star+.
“100% Outstanding Experience”
I cannot recommend Ethical Adventures highly enough. Five Stars isn’t enough - Ten Stars is better!!
My two friends and I experienced two amazing day trips.
Our Litchfield Gorge tour with Adam was outstanding. Adam is so knowledgeable and passionate about preserving our incomparable flora and fauna.
Our day trip to Kakadu with Rob was another amazing day, with sights and sounds of Kakadu filling our hearts with joy that we’re so very lucky to live in the best country in the world and we need to take care of our environment for generations to come. Rob’s knowledge of Kakadu taught us so much and we have memories that will stay with us forever. Seeing crocodiles up close and hearing aboriginals tell their stories and the opportunity to buy their art was another incredible experience.
The snacks and freshly prepared lunch were healthy, delicious and filling, just what we needed to fuel us throughout the day.
Go for it, book at least one trip with Ethical Adventures, I’m 100% certain you’ll learn a lot and come away with a renewed appreciation of the Northern Territory.
“Special trip to Kakadu with Ethical Adventures”
My husband and I joined the two-day Colours of Kakadu tour run by Rob last week. It was fabulous! It was certainly a "get what you pay for" experience. Care and attention to detail throughout the two days that were filled with wonderful, memorable experiences. Croissants for breakfast among the waterbirds at Cobb Dam and a surprise stop at the wildlife photography studio on the way to Kakadu signalled it was going to be special! Can thoroughly recommend this tour and this operator.
“AbsAbsolutely Amazing Service. 100% Recommend”
We did 2 day tours with Ethical Adventures - Kakadu, Litchfield and Katherine. The staff Rob, Tracey, Carl and Norm are so professional and ready to ensure that your day is both enjoyable and educational. They imparted their knowledge with ease and in a manner that you will remember. Rob went out of his way to ensure that our Top End Holiday was one that we will never forget. I am coeliac and Tracey ensured all my meals were delicious and gluten free. Ethical Adventures customer service is truly second to none. Travelling in a small group makes the tours relaxed, friendly and easy to interact with other travelers and tour guide alike. For tours that you will enjoy and remember I thoroughly recommend Ethical Adventures.
“Top notch experience, Luvly Jubbly”
Maate, My wife and i did 3 trips with Ethical Tours, Lichfield, Katherine and Kakadu all long day trips, all well worth it. We dealt with Tracy the main boss who took our money that we gladly paid, the ham and cheese croissants, the lunch salads, the handmade muffins and the beverages she prepared were brilliant. Rob the under boss and tour guide was very knowledgeable, informative and very accommodating. Adam ( Aka the backbone ) tour guide was the same as Rob with knowledge, info and accommodating all in all we had a brilliant time and a few laughs on all 3 tours which made the rest of our Darwin trip even better. 10 out 10 for everything, many thanks, Tim and Veronica Sunny coast.
“Highly recommended experience with knowledgeable and friendly gu”
My partner and I did two tours with this wonderful crew to Kakadu and to Katherine. Can’t speak highly enough about the experience - from great and inspiring conversations with Rob, to Adam’s amazing conservation and biodiversity knowledge. Truly a fantastic business that doesn’t shy away from its values - highly recommend if you care about climate change, the environment and nature.
“Another aspect of the Top Ed”
We have had two previous trips with Ethical Adventures - 2 day Kakadu and one day Litchfield. Both were exceptionally well organised, planned and executed. Great staff with knowledge of the areas we travelled to. Each were small groups approx eight people which suited our style.
When we were planning our trip to Darwin earlier in the year, we had no hesitation looking to see what other trips Rob had available. This one day trip - Birds, buggies and airboat, was to Finness River Lodge. A 0600 hrs start got us out there 90 minutes later for a great breakfast cooked by Lockie, the resident chef and guide. Then a trip around part of the 50,000 acre working cattle station exposed us to the local wildlife up close. An airboat ride with Captain Brad was a thrill - more wildlife then lunch. The Lodge's locally made gin, mixed and garnished by Olivia was a perfect refreshment. A fun and informative day for the small group of seven people.
“Fabulous all round”
Fabulous guide, fabulous food, fantastic river cruise with really interesting information from our Aboriginal guide. I would recommend this tour to anyone who likes a smaller, more personalised tour.
“Very memorable day trip”
What a great day. Nice balance of activities, quiet moments taking in scenery, walking, and travel time. Our guide Carl was a top host, taking us to some nice spots in and around Litchfield. Carl was very professional, taking care to keep us happy and well-fed with surprisingly nice food and drinks for a road trip. He was also very knowledgeable about places, plants and animals, and did a great job communicating with us. Had a good group with only 9 people in total. Nice to share the day with them. Highly recommended.
“A great tour visiting all the best Litchfield has to offer”
We thoroughly enjoyed our Litchfield tour with ethical adventures. Our guide showed us all the highlights while giving in depth commentary on the park, it's flora and fauna, and the region as a whole. We were well cared for during the tour, with plenty of refreshments and ways to cool down. Highly recommend this tour when you're in Darwin!
“Great way to spend a day from Darwin”
Very relaxing and enjoyable tour . Two great swimming spots, the first with warm springs, and later a a waterfall with a crystal clear swimming lake. Lunch creekside was very tasty.
The guide , Carl was entertaining with much knowledge and stories
“Lovely day exploring Litchfield NP with a friendly and informati”
I really enjoyed this lovely small group tour with Karl who was very friendly and informative. Being the first visitors to Berry Springs was a definite plus and being able to swim in three rock pools really made the day very refreshing.
“Thanks for such a wonderful tour”
Excellent tour. Amazing places and well programmed. Cam, our guide was great, keep us well informed and gave us the time in each place to enjoy it. Comfy transport and food very delicious. Thanks so much for such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend it. Claudia and Cliff
“Fantastic Day Trip!”
It is a long day but amazing!! All inclusive trip with breakfast, lunch, drinks and afternoon tea and a final stop at the Bark Hut Pub. The lunch was simple but hearty and healthy and very delicious.
Our guide Rob was informative, funny, and explained the Kakadu NP area and rock art history with lots of breaks to enjoy the scenery and take it all in.
Small group of six which is nice as we didn’t feel rushed like bigger tours.
We also had Robbie a local indigenous guide who explained his way of life passed on by his ancestors while cruising the river and to see the crocodiles up close in their natural habitat.
Overall it was an amazing tour, a new perspective of life in the Territory and the scenery was breathtaking.
Thank you
“Amazing Day at Kakadu”
I had a great day exploring Kakadu. Rob was an amazing and knowledgeable guide. The lunch and snacks provided were both healthy and delicious. I loved the small and relaxed tour group size and Rob was a natural at making everyone feel welcome and at ease. The highlights included vising amazing Aboriginal rock paintings and meeting local indigenous artists and guides. The boat trip to see crocodiles up close won't disappoint. I would recommend this must do tour to everyone visiting Darwin/Kakadu.
“Exactly What We Hoped For – and More!”
Review for Kakadu 2 Day Tour Colours of Kakadu
As a small group it allowed us to adjust the pace, like when we were driving past a picturesque billabong, we could stop and have our lunch there.
The lunches were really tasty. The warm muffins before the sunrise Yellow Water cruise were fabulous.
The whole itinerary has been well considered to get the most out of 2 days. We highly recommend this experience. Thank you Adam our guide and the team of Ethical Adventures for our wonderful experience of Kakadu.
“Highly recommend”
Fabulous day exploring Litchfield. Early morning dip at Berry Springs perfect to start the day - drinking coffee in the springs. All stops interesting - Florence and Wangi Falls and termite mounds. Excellent lunch and snacks through out the day. Adam very knowledgeable and entertaining guide
“Exclusive Immersive Territory Day Tour”
Keen to try something new and different we joined Rob on his small group Top End Taste Safari ( Birds, buggies, brunch, airboat) at Finniss River Lodge/Station. An early hotel pickup and 115km drive southwest from Darwin had us at the luxury lodge where we were warmly greeted by the team with coffee and chef prepared breakfast. We then headed out with our very experienced knowledgeable station guide for 2 hours of wildlife spotting and nature education in the go anywhere ATV. Following this was an exhilarating airboat ride over the wetlands. Time then for a beverage and another chef prepared meal. A swim in the lodge pool rounded off the afternoon. A relaxed, unhurried day, away from the crowds with plenty of time for photography and questions. 100% recommend this day tour. Suitable for anyone interested in seeing another side of Territory.
“Fantastic day out”
Had a great tour with Karl, his knowledge and information on the way to our first stop Berry Springs was great, what a way to start the day, swim and then morning tea. Then onto the termite mounds, Florence falls and the rock pools for 2 more swims, lunch was great. Wangi falls was the last stop, what a great place to visit, fantastic view of the falls from the water for another swim and cool down. Would recommend this day tour , well organized.
“Highly recommended”
We had a great day, were taken to beautiful scenery, could swim in warm but refreching water, were close to spectacular waterfalls and walk through exotic bush. Conny&York from Germany
“Loved it!”
Excellent organisation and thoughtful touches to make the day more enjoyable and the weather more bearable. The food was delicious and Adam was an awesome guide :)
