Departing daily from the Marlin Marina, Gate E, M.V. Sun-Kist travels via Fitzroy island on the way to the true Outer Great Barrier Reef.
Each day we visit a reef from a choice of Milln, Briggs, Moore and Thetford Reefs - About two (2) hours, approximately 40 nautical miles (70 kilometres) from the coast of Cairns.
Our experienced Reef Team - selected for their local knowledge and love of the Cairns region and the ocean - will help you discover the best snorkel and dive sites available from Cairns.
We visit Two (2) Outer Barrier Reef sites each day, You can see all the marine life at one of our sites and we have lots to offer. Hard Coral, Soft Coral, Clams, Nemo, Dori, Sting rays, hundreds of smaller reef fish, reef sharks and turtles - just to name a few.
Optional Introductory dives are available on request for AUD $50 (first dive) and AUD $40 (second dive) payable onboard.

What should I pack?
Depending on where in Australia or New Zealand you decide to visit, your luggage will vary. For exact information please visit the "What to bring" section of each tour page.
What immunisations do I need?
For the latest information on immunisations, we strongly recommend you or contact the Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre (www.traveldoctor.com.au) to discuss health requirements for your trip. They will advise you about appropriate inoculations.
Do I need to take any medical supplies?
It is not necessary to bring any medical supplies other than any personal items you may require. Each tour will carry an first aid box and our guides are all certified in First Aid.
How fit do I need to be?
Our tours are made to be fun, informative and active and can be enjoyed by anyone with a moderate degree of fitness and agility. Travellers should be comfortable with hiking/walking up to 5km each day.
Do I need travel insurance?
Insurance is important in protecting visitors from loss or damange of goods, medical problems, cancelation by passengers or other casualties. Its highly recommended. Some tours on this website require you to have travel insurance. If you are Australian then it is not necessary.
Will I be able to use my mobile whilst on tour?
You can use your mobile while touring in Australia or New Zealand, but coverage may be limited in remote areas. For best connectivity, consider purchasing a local SIM card or an international roaming plan.

Booking the trip
Do I have to book this tour online?
Definitely not. Our website is designed to make is easy and convenient for you to schedule your tour. However we understand sometimes its nice to talk to someone directly. So by all means give us a call and we can organise your trip over the phone.
If I book more than one tour can I get a discount?
Absolutely! If you are booking multiple tours then we may be able to offer you a discount. Send us an email at info@lostinaustralia.org and let us know what you thinking of doing and we can put together a price for you.Also, be sure to look out for monthly specials on tours. We often have some great bargains.
How do I know when a tour is available?
You can check the departure dates of tours by using our calendar on the top right hand corner of the tour page. This will tell you what days the tour departs. For availability of seats please contact us directly at info@lostinaustralia.org or call us.
Does the tour price include flights?
No. Tour prices do not include any travel arrangements other than for the duration of the tour itself. If you need assistance with booking flights or buses our travel team and certainly help - Just ask!
How far in advance do I need to book my tour?
As a rule of thumb we generally say AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to departure, this will usually get you a seat on the date you want. That being said, we cannot guarantee that spaces will be available at the time of your booking so, if you can, book as soon as possible. Bookings can still be made right up until the departure date of the tour if seats are available. If you know when you'd like to travel, please contact us and we will let you know if you need to book soon or if you have time.
If I make a deposit only, when will I need to pay the balance?
Balance on tours need to be paid at least 30 days prior to departure. Failure to do so could result is the cancellation of your seat with a fee charged. If you need more time to clear your balance then let us know ASAP and arrangements can be made.
Who travels with us
Is this tour for me?
Our tours are made up of small groups with a range of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Generally people who travel with us are between 20 and 49, though we also get alot passengers much older onboard - everyone is welcome! On tour we get equally as many males as females and everyone shares an enthusiasm for the out doors, nature, adventure and culture. Our tours are for those wanting to really explore and share the experience with likeminded travellers. Whether we are camping by a billabong in Kakadu National Park or sharing a cabin in Tasmania, our travellers want more than just a site seeing tour. They are chasing a hands on group experience. The trips are packed with many highlights and the pace can be fast. There may be some long drives and passengers should expect to help out when setting up camp or cooking food - this is a group adventure. However, there’s always time to chill out, have a cold beer ( or wine! ) and soak up your surroundings. As always, if in doubt then contact us directly with your concerns.
Cost and Fees
What does "Paid Locally" mean?
Some tours require you to pay national park fees directly, in cash, to the tour guide on the morning of departure. Rest assured this will be subtracted from the tour price when reserving your tour.
Will I need additional money?
Visitors are advised to bring some cash as ATMs and banks can be few and far between depending on where we are during the trip. Its handy to have some extra cash as we do stop by local shops and cafe.
Do I need to tip our guide?
If you had an amazing time on tour and wish to tip the guide, then that is completely up to you. However, tipping is not customary and is not at all expected.
Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?
Our tour prices are completely transparent. There are no additional fees involved that are not included in the overall tour price shown. If you wish to do optional activities such as helicopter rides or wildlife safaris, then an extra cost may be needed. However, this will always be made clear at the time of your booking.

We did our open water diver course at CDC and we couldn't recommend it enough. Our instructor Richard was fabulous, he really took his time to ensure you understand all techniques and little tricks. Plus he is a very very experienced diver and there was never a time when we didn't feel in good hands and absolutely safe. The groups are small so the instructor can keep a close eye on every student to make sure you are comfortable doing what is required for the certificate.
They will take you to the outer reef where you will definitely see beautiful corals, anemones and an abundance of colourful fish. Certainly suitable for both divers and snorkels!
We highly recommend CDC, great atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Especially thanks to Richard for his patience and support, couldn't have wished for a better instructor!!

We headed out on my birthday I have not dived in over 10yrs and what an amazing way to get back in to it again nice small group. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, my fiance where's a cochlear implant and it was the first time she had been snorkeling it got a little more choppy in the afternoon but we still have a wonderful day I did 2 dives best money for value ever I feel, a great way for introductory and people getting back into diving to do this day , high praises to the stuff. a great way to spend my birthday 26th of May 2019.

I stayed on the Kangaroo Explorer for 3 nights with the intention of diving the Great Barrier Reef as much as possible- I was not disappointed! The crew was incredible, and I was able to get my Advanced Open Water certification during my stay. Shout out to Greyson for making class so much fun and the chefs for making such delicious food!! Completed the Padi open water course yesterday. Very friendly staff on board and in the office. The instructor picked us up before the course and dropped us off after, anywhere we wanted. On board a nice lunch is provided. Our instructor Richard Blanch is very experienced, practical and great at explaining everything. Great dive crew and knowledgeable skipper. If you want a proper non-crowded dive or snorkel on the reef these guys are where it's at. We saw whales on our way out and there was enough flexibility to idle for a bit and watch them breaching. There was a mix of certified divers, first time snorkelers, sea sick people, and PADI open water students yet everyone was catered to and looked after. This is a genuine reef experience - so much better than the massive corporate environment of the bigger boats.

Thanks to CDC! Went on the Island Diver introductory tour and they made us feel super at ease with their chilled but assured vibes. This company is amazing!!! My husband and I were on our honeymoon, walking around the Marina in Cairns (after a different company cancelled our snorkeling trip that morning!) and we discovered Cairns Dive Centre. They were excellent. We actually got to go scuba diving, as well as, snorkeling. I had never done either before. The snorkeling was fun and I saw lots of fish, coral and jellyfish! I was very nervous about the scuba diving. After I put my gear on I told our instructor, Liam, that I was too nervous and didn't think I could do it. He talked to me and built my confidence. He helped me to scuba dive for 20 minutes. I was so proud of myself and so thankful for the team who brought us out! I wonder if we had been with a different company- and I had said that I was nervous - if another company would have made the same effort and taken the time that Liam did to help me with mentally preparing for the scuba dive. I think that this company was the best. I would definitely go again and would aim to scuba dive for longer next time! I would recommend Cairns Dive Centre to anyone. They were AWESOME!! The guys were so much fun, so helpful and we had a great day! You won't be disappointed. Thanks for reading!

Hey guys. I have just spent a week in Cairns & spent two days out on the reef snorkelling & scuba diving with the guys from Cairns Dive Centre. It was the most amazing experience & I can't thank them & all the crew enough for everything that they did for me. I flew up to Cairns and got my diving licence with CDC about two weeks ago and it was the best experience ever!!! I felt very safe in the hands of the professional dive team over the four day course and had an experience of a lifetime during our four dives on the Barrier Reef. Special shout out to our instructor Ethan who made the classes and lessons fun and highly entertaining from day one. If you are lucky enough to be trained by Ethan you are guaranteed to be in for a real fun time, not once did I feel unsafe. Can't recommend it enough!!! Thank you CDC!

I had an amazing day with MV Sunkist team. I can't swim but I really want to experience a diving. The team works very professionally and manage to get me to dive safely. The instructor is very patient and he makes sure I feel comfortable and happy with every single steps. He is also takes me to snorkeling and look around. I am very impressed and feel so special. Every crews are so friendly and helpful, make me smile for the whole trip. Beautiful lunch on boat with amazing view. As I can't swim I never thought I could ever done anything like this. I went out snorkelling with cdc twice in my time in cairns. I wasn't allowed to scuba due to medication I was on, but the team made sure that there was plenty for both the snorkellers and the scuba team to see!
There are two different stops on a standard day trip, ensuring that you get to see the most of the reef. Good value camera rental if you haven't got one. I got pretty nifty pics of the fish, coral and also turtles (up close and personal at one point!) and even a shark! Didn't see Nemo on this trip unfortunately, but won't hold that against the team!
There was a lot of support for those nervous snorkellers, and a guide taking you to the bulk of the reef, but you didn't need to stay with the group if you were a competent swimmer.
Al in all, had a brilliant couple of trips out. Will definitely recommend the team, who stayed positive and friendly even when the seas were rough. My only suggestion would be is that, if they offer you seasickness tablets, then you take them!!!
My only suggestion is to maybe have the team's photographer go out with the snorkellers as well. I know I would've paid for a photo with a background of reef and me holding a sign saying "I woz ere!" I know the scuba experience is special, but for those of us who didn't go down, the snorkelling was special too!

Value for money is great here & staff were exceptional & for only my 3rd dive in my life I found them very helpful as I asked a lot of questions and I reckon by the end of the day they would have ben sick of me but no still very pleasant to say our goodbyes, so thanks for a fun day as I said earlier great value for money for me a learner really and the views I saw of fish and a multiple amount of colors wherever you look was just mind blowing will always have fond memories of this CHEERS ALL

I know this is late but had to write a review to thank Cairns Dive Center for making my trip to the reef so memorable. I did an Intro dive with them and the experience was out of the world. For someone who hasn't dived before I felt so comfortable thanks to the instructions provided before the dive. When I got in the water I could recollect everything that was told by my instructor Lee because he made the learning experience so much fun! The initial few seconds felt scary breathing in and out after which I felt like a pro :). I carried a Go Pro along but the images that their team captured were so good and reasonably charged as well that I felt I should have told them earlier to capture as much as they wanted!. I'm not very good at swimming but I was able to do the dive and enjoyed it thoroughly.
What I really loved was the attitude of the crew especially Lee that I will never forget. My wife who doesn't know swimming and has a fear of water was sitting in the boat while the rest were snorkeling. He wanted to ensure that every customer had a great time on their trip. He made sure he got someone to pull a tire on the water so that my wife didn't miss the great reef experience. She totally loved what she saw and would have missed it if it wasn't for Cairns Dive Center.
Thanks for making our Reef experience memorable. I would like to visit again!!

Did the snorkeling day trip at the great barrier reef and it was incredible. Without a doubt the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. The staff were so helpful and made the day even more enjoyable.
I'm not the best swimmer and quite afraid of the ocean, but once we got out there I had so much fun and was not scared at all.

Where to begin with this AWESOME snorkaok us to two gorgeous sites where we were treated to an incredible array of wildlife. In our pair of two hour sessions, we saw sharks, turtles, and all kinds of beautiful fish. The lunch was DELICIOUS, much better than I was expecting, to be honest. There were tasty fresh fruit trays set out throughout the day as well. We all had a great time chatting with the marine biologist on board about all of the things we were seeing, and one of the crew members took us on an underwater "tour" of his favorite sites. And all of this for what seems to me to be an unreasonably low price. How are they even turning a profit on this?? It was the perfect trip!

2 great dives on the day trip boat,friendly knowledgeable crew, great viz good fish life and corals, the sharks and turtles turned up..overall very enjoyable.

I learned how to dive with them and the experience was really great, i did the night dive as well and this was an amazing experience.

It was very nice. Good for beginners and experienced divers. It was a nice and funny crew. I was twelve and did the introduction dive it was fantastic!! Diving with Matty was great!!!!
