Tasmania offers pristine wilderness, exceptional hiking, and jaw-droppingly beautiful beaches. There's plenty to like, and this trip, starting and finishing in Hobart, does a pretty good job of seeing it all.
Taste the wilds of the west, get your hike on in Cradle Mountain and explore the East Coast including the Bay of Fires and Freycinet National Park.
Travelling in small groups (maximum of 24) we visit Cradle Mountain, Russell Falls, the Bay of Fires, Wineglass Bay, the village of Strahan, and Bicheno - where you can learn about Tasmania’s fascinating convict history.

Itinerary
See MapDay One: HOBART > BICHENO
Start your adventure exploring the famous *Salamanca Markets in Hobart. We’ll then make our way up kunanyi/Mount Wellington to admire awesome views over Hobart. After stopping by the historic village of Richmond, we’ll travel north along the scenic Great Eastern Drive, passing through the coastal towns of Orford and Swansea. We will head to the wildlife sanctuary for a chance to see some of Tasmania’s native wildlife up close, including Tasmanian Devils. We continue late in the day to Bicheno where tonight you can take a guided tour (own cost) for a closer look at the life of the Little Penguin colony.

Day Two: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK
This morning we experience the beautiful Freycinet National Park, home to a wild domain of sublime beaches, whose powder-white sands are lapped by translucent waters. For those seeking a challenge, try the climb to the summit of Mt Amos or join the walk to Wineglass Bay, voted one of the world’s top 10 beaches. There are other free walking choices available, including the path up to Cape Tourville Lighthouse, where you can enjoy panoramic vistas across the coast. Afterwards, we return to Bicheno for the night, where you can perhaps indulge in a delicious seafood dinner in this fishing town, sampling dishes from crayfish to abalone.

Day Three: BICHENO > LAUNCESTON
Today we continue along the East Coast, stopping at the Bay of Fires. This area is remarkable for its beauty, wildlife, and cultural history, with long stretches of dazzling white beaches, shimmering turquoise waters, coastal heath and woodlands that abound with wildlife. On the way to Launceston, we’ll explore more of the lush Northeast of Tasmania, including the giant tree ferns at St Columba Falls and Pyengana’s farmhouse artisan cheese. Lastly, we’ll check out the lovely Cataract Gorge in the heart of the city before settling in for the night in Tasmania’s second largest city.

Day Four: LAUNCESTON > CRADLE MOUNTAIN
Leaving Launceston, a short drive takes us through Sheffield, the ‘Town of Murals’ and then onto Cradle Mountain. Around 950m above sea level is the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where you can choose a walk to suit you. With an extensive range of tracks, stroll around Dove Lake or challenge yourself with a hike to Marion’s Lookout. We finish the day in the harbourside village of Strahan, where we will stay overnight.

Day Five: WILD WEST COAST
In the untouched wilderness of Tasmania’s West Coast we will explore the shifting sands of Henty Dunes, visit Ocean Beach and breathe the freshest air in the world. Then we continue into the Tarkine region and walk amongst the rainforest, checking out Tassie’s highest waterfall (Montezuma Falls) before returning to Strahan. Or today you can opt to experience the breath-taking wilderness via the fabulous Gordon River Cruise (own cost).

Day Six: STRAHAN > HOBART
Leaving Strahan, we’ll visit the moonscape of Queenstown before exploring the pristine Franklin-Gordon Wild River National Park, followed by a visit to Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, Lake St Clair. On our way to Hobart, we stop at Mt Field National Park, to walk among the tall trees and observe the beautiful Russell Falls. We continue our drive through the Derwent Valley travelling west to east across the island, returning to Hobart and bidding farewell to your travel companions and your incredible adventure.
