1 Day Cradle Mountain Tour

Sam was an amazing host and made sure we had the best experience. When we got to Cradle Mountain there were different options for our day/walk, we went with the more challenging option however the other option also seemed amazing. The places we stopped at on the way there and back were lovely, overall would highly recommend to anyone visiting Tasmania!!

From start to finish, my Cradle Mountain day trip from Hobart was nothing short of amazing! Our guide, Sam, was friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable—not only about Cradle Mountain, but also the stunning landscapes and history of Tasmania along the way, where we stopped at beautiful places such as Ross and Deloraine! Plenty of photo opportunities even BEFORE getting to our destination. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the raw beauty of Tasmania in the hands of someone who really cares about your experience. Thank you for a day we’ll never forget!

I joined The Derwent Experience tour up to Cradle Mountain with Sam as our guide and driver last week, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, absolutely fantastic! I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Tasmania’s alpine region with a great mix of nature, local insights, and delicious food. Hobart to Cradle Mountain in a day? Not only it is possible, but it's possible to do comfortably- giving you the option to take in an incredible Tasmanian experience within a limited timeframe, as I had. I went up to Marion's Lookout (and a good bit beyond, which was the best part of my hike). Enjoyed the day immensely. Wombats, platypuses, green rosellas! (The pink robin eludes me still..) Having had a taste, I'll return someday to do the whole Overland Track. Amazing. Sam has structured the day in such a way so as to maximize time at Cradle, with some fine stops along the way for coffee and good grub, too! A winner!

Hands down, this was one of the best drinks tours we’ve ever experienced! Our friendship group has done many drinks tours across different states in Australia, but the one Sam curated for us was truly outstanding. From the moment we started, Sam made us feel welcomed and excited for the day ahead. He drove us to each venue, sharing fascinating stories and local history along the way. We got to see how different distilleries and breweries operate, and of course the unique tasting sessions were incredible. What really stood out was Sam’s genuine passion for what he does. The whole day was amazing, and to top it all off, we enjoyed an extra drink by the river on a beautiful day. I had only 3 days in Hobart and decided to have 1 day tour for Cradle Mountain. It was quite far from Hobart but Mr.Sam made my journey very colorful with his knowledge and knowhow. You must go up to Marions lookout to see those absoloutely stunning sceneries of Dove lake. The restaurants for breakfast and dinner were enjoyable. Mr.sam explaned every details for the stops and itinerary whenever possible. Plus he is really good at driving, taking photos. His pronunciation as well as intonation sound comprihensible compare to Aussie’s one as English is not my first language. I would like to recommend.

The Hobart to Cradle Mountain tour was absolutely fantastic! Sam had everything perfectly planned and thought out. Breaks were timed just right, I was able to sleep and rest in the morning, great music after breakfast. The restaurants were great. The van was also super comfortable, with reclining seats and charging ports for added convenience. We were able to spot around 20 wombats with up close encounters, along with wallabies, a pademelon, and even a platypus! Sam also provided great historical insights and useful information about the areas we visited, including which hikes were best and we could do at Cradle Mountain with the time we had. If you’re on the fence about booking this trip, trust me—it’s totally worth it. 10 out of 10, highly recommend!

The day tour to Cradle Mountain led by Sam was well organized, well planned, and very leisure. It was a small group tour and you will have the chance to see what nature have to offer in it’s most pristine form. The hike to the mountain will give you a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. All in all a well worth day tour with Derwent Experience.

Can’t recommend The Derwent Experience enough! Sam is extremely thoughtful and accommodating. We had a limited amount of time in Hobart and Sam was able to arrange a tour for us — on a day that the tour typically doesn’t run — with a private driver (who was also great, thank you, Graeme!). We took two of his tours (Ultimate Drinks Tour Tasmania and Hobart to Cradle Mountain Active Day Trip) and both were well-organized, personalizable, and lots of fun. Well worth the money and time spent. Thank you Sam and team!

My family and I were able to explore Tasmania in a day thanks to Sam's trip from Hobart to Cradle Mountain, seeing all the snow, walking with the breathtaking view of Dove Lake, and also enjoying the natural beauty and local area of Tasmania along the ride. We also got stuck in the snow, which was an unforgettable experience. It was a little worrying, but what an adventure! Sam was also very nice and made sure everyone was comfortable, which added to the enjoyment of the trip. The Derwent experience was truly an amazing introduction to Tasmania, the day was so convenient with meal stops, Tassie history and driving so smooth most of of us were asleep on the way there and back. The views were absolutely spectacular and well worth every penny.

The trip was fantastic! Although it was a long road trip, the transport was very comfortable, which made the journey enjoyable. Sam, our tour guide and driver, was excellent—he made us feel safe throughout the trip. Visiting Cradle Mountain was absolutely worth it; the views were stunning and unforgettable. If you don’t have a car in Hobart or prefer not to drive, this trip is a great option. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Cradle Mountain without the hassle of driving.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two days out with Sam to the Derwent and Coal River Valley regions visiting 11 venues over the weekend. He curated the perfect tour visiting some amazing cellar doors. Had the opportunity to do the Cradle Mountain day trip and it was the highlight of my Australia visit. Sam is a very good driver who makes the trip run smooth and has frequent stops to ensure the comfort of his passengers. Prompt and communicative, balanced providing cultural and historical knowledge and quiet time during the rides, and curated an action-packed, but relaxing time — well worth the price. I went on the Hobart <-> Cradle Mountain day tour and it was the highlight of my time in Tas.

Wonderful wonderful day trip to Cradle Mountains. Very detailed pick-up instructions and nice meals choices. We had a perfect weather and nice small group members that help each other reach the lookout. Same the guide and our driver was very helpful and passionate. It was very good to travel with him. Just note that only a big breakfast and early dinner are provied. So it's better to carry some biscuit or fruits with you.

Had a wonderful day with Sam heading out to Cradle Mountain from Hobart. An awesome way to see so much of Tasmania all in one day. We got to see so much countryside, he took us through many cute towns and had great knowledge of the history in the areas. We got up to the Cradle Mountain National Park and despite the weather being too dangerous to do the usual trails Sam had a plan b walk for us to do. An amazing experience hiking through the mountains for 3 hours in the afternoon in amongst the snow! It was just a surreal experience! An amazing day without any of the stress because Sam had everything organised and planned. Thankyou Sam, highly highly recommend the trip to anyone interested!

The cradle mountain tour was truly amazing. Sam’s a really friendly and caring guide. He offered to drive to our place early in the morning to pick us up to save us an hour’s walk and dropped us at our doorstep at the end of the day. He also brought jackets and umbrellas for us unprepared hikers to brave the high altitude cold. Even though we had a long drive from Hobart, we were still able to spend enough time at Cradle mountain. We also got even more than advertised. We stopped at the Great Lake lookout for a nice view, a farm area to see an ox, and a secluded area at night to see the milky way galaxy! Great job on the tour Sam!

100% worth it! This day trip was definitely a highlight of my holidays in Australia! Sam is a pro at this, he made the ride very enjoyable. Perfect for the ones who stay in Hobart and don’t have a car.

Highly recommend tour from Hobart to Cradle Mt! I’m still buzzing what an awesome trip! Sam is on point with details, organised, and easy going :) The weather was pristine we were able to climb up past Marion’ point lookout! Stunning view! The tour had good breaks every now and then during the drive for a good breakky, toilet breaks and fresh air! Saw some cool animals wombats, echinads, platypus! Its definitely been a treat! This tour with Sam is so worth it, it’s a must do!

We booked two last minute tours with Sam for Cradle Mountain and Freycinet National Park. We wanted someone to take us to each and only had a day for each. Not an easy task at all. We wanted to pack in as much as we could and cover a ton in two days. Sam delivered and then some! We couldn’t be more pleased! The tours were truly incredible! Sam really organized two amazing tours in such a short period of time. Would book again and again, and fell in love with Tasmania.

Was over the moon to have the opportunity to take a tour from Hobart (the only one) to Cradle Lake and back within a day. Sam was knowledgable of all the little towns we drove through and stopped at & chose great spots to have breakfast and dinner. Once we got to the Dove Lake trail we were able to go at our own pace and on our own which I really valued. Such an amazing experience, would absolutely go on a Derwent experience again.

The drive to Cradle Mountain National Park starts very early from Hobart, so you have plenty of time to get to Marion's Lookout. I highly recommend this tour to nature lovers who enjoy hiking. As a bonus, there's a very good chance of encountering wild wombats on the hike.

This tour was amazing! Sam was very helpful, we had plenty of time to explore and hike (if we wanted to) the cradle mountains. The best tour I had so far in Australia!

I didn’t think we’d get the chance to see cradle mountain in our tight schedule but Sam made it possible with his 1 day tour. We loved the drive through the countryside, the walk around dove lake was breathtaking,  and the dinner by the fire in the country pub with our new friends on return drive will be remembered for years to come.  What a day! Our experience was amazing! Our host/guide Sam was very knowledgeable and made the trip so interesting. The wine selection was amazing and we loved the infancy of the group! A truly amazing day trip to Cradle Mountain, it's a long day but if in Hobart take the day and go.We went just at the beginning of the off season,(today). If you want to see 4 seasons in one day this is the trip for you. 

This was the best tour we went on while in Tasmania. We saw some lovely sights and learned a ton about Tasmania, thanks to Sam's enthusiastic input. His personal touch made this tour the ultimate!

A litle late in my review, but I didnt want to forget a positive review for such a great day out.  Sam is a great communicator and went the extra mile to solve our logisitcs problem so we could join the tour.  The full day tour itself was unique to Hobart visiting many of the 'famers market' boutique winerys/distillers.  My family and I had a great time!

Had a tour to cradle mountain with Sam the tour guide and owner. Van was really comfortable. Sam was really thoughtful to provide raincoats/clothing for those who were unprepared. The places he chose for our meal stops were really tasty and within reasonable price range. It was a great day out and I highly recommend anyone to book their tour with him!

Sam's tour was quite 'eye opening'! We went to places close to Hobart that I would never have known about, who knew they made yummy spiced rum in New Norfolk?! This is a great combination of tasting and some history and great Tassie scenery, and a great finish at a yummy, conveniently located in Hobart craft brewery.

Went on the full Derwent experience today! I’ve had a blast and can’t recommend Sam and his hospitality more! Sam’s driving was very smooth and punctual. His very knowledgeable and welcoming tour guide!

We had the absolute pleasure of touring Cradle Mountain with Samuel as our guide, and the experience was truly unforgettable. Samuel went above and beyond to make sure every moment of the tour was enjoyable and comfortable for everyone. Sam was an amazing tour guide, very knowledgeable and passionate. This is a 5/5 star day trip. B prepared for a long car ride to cradle mountain but Sam’s van is super comfy and the stopovers are very scenic so it doesn’t feels like 4 hours at all. Over all, the trip was well planned and organised. The van fits 11 passengers, if you are into small group activities, this is perfect for you.

We had a marvellous time with Sam and The Derwent Experience to Cradle Mountain; it was the perfect beginning of our trip to Tasi. The day was so well planned, information galore and an event the kids and I will remember for the rest of our lives. As a day adventure from Hobart, I can highly recommend this tour.

Having followed others reviews this experience did not disappoint at all and I was lucky to get on it as they are usually fully booked which says it all really! The early start is well worth it to get to Cradle Mountain, which is absolutely spectacular.

Our experience was INCREDIBLE! I can’t believe Sam (owner) made wine tasting tours a FAMILY-FRIENDLY one! He accommodated our request to bring along with us our kids since we also want them to enjoy the sceneries and the vineyards. Of course, they can’t have wines - Sam went above and beyond by making sure kids get busy also by bringing some color pads, crayons and other activities that our kids can enjoy. Sam has been so helpful eversince I inquired about their services down to the day of our tour. He shared to us further what we can do at Hobart during the rest of our stay. If I had known that he offered other tour services other than the wine tastings, we would’ve had him the entire duration of our stay! 

Hubby and I were gifted the Drink Tasmania Up tour. We are Hobart locals and this was a great opportunity to get out and meet some of the makers and find out more about our favourite beers, wines and spirits. Sam is knowledgeable about not only Tassie food and drink, but also the local history. The tour was informative, fun and delicious. The wonderful Tasmanians you meet along the way really make this tour a wonderful experience.

HOW GOOD! Absolutely incredible Cradle Mountain trip - SO much packed into a day so efficiently, ridiculously good value for money! The nature is of course beautiful, but the knowledge, personality and contacts Sam has just make it so good. Really impressive, communication was so clear re organisation throughout too. We had an absolutely fabulous time on our first tour in Tassie. Sam was a great tour guide, he was quite insightful about the history of Tasmania and local Artisan Industries as we drove from each place. He was quite flexible in this personalized tour and we really enjoyed it. We highly recommend this tour to other visitors.

I did two tours back to back with Sam and I absolutely loved it! The tasting tour was exceptional, showcasing the best of what the local wineries and distilleries have to offer. It was also an amazing opportunity to get to meet locals who shared with us their passion -something I could not have done alone. And Sam's choice of places was excellent!
